FROM THE DESK OF FATHER JOHN:
Welcome to our humble website of St Elia Albanian Orthodox Church of Jamestown, NY. We've been ministering for over 100 years in the Jamestown area. We Believe that the Orthodox Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ and described throughout the New Testament. The word Orthodox comes from two Greek words: "orthos" (which means "correct") and "doxa" (which means "teaching"). Most prominent in Orthodox worship is the corporate praise, thanksgiving and glory given to God by the church. This worship consummates in intimate communion with God at his Holy Table.
The Eucharist, which means "thanksgiving,"  early became a synonym for Holy Communion. The Eucharist is the center of worship in any Orthodox church. In the Eucharist, we partake mystically of Christ's body and blood, which imparts His life and strength to us. The celebration of the Eucharist was a regular part of the Church's life from it's beginning.  Early Christians began calling the Eucharist "the medicine of immortality" because they recognized the great grace of God that was received in it.
As you surf through the website pages, we also hope that you will remember that the Christian community is like every other part of life.  To paraphrase Scripture, "we reap what we sow." Therefore, the greater involvement, commitment and support, the greater the benefit.
St. Elia is the place for you! You are cordially welcomed to any of our church services (which are in English). We hope that our humble website may give you a taste of our beautiful and spiritually uplifting faith. WHAT WE ARE IS GOD'S GIFT TO US. WHAT WE BECOME IS OUR GIFT TO GOD! If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or our parish representative Nick Manno, listed on our contact page.

Our Vision: "Faith, Family, Community"
Our Mission: To glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through our words and actions, according to the Holy Traditions and sacred teachings of our Orthodox Christian Faith!
